isha upanishad in English | isha upanishad chanting verse 13 | ishavasya upanishad | Result of Worshipping Manifested and Unmanifested | Vedanta Philosophy

Dear readers,

Welcome back to our blog. Today we will discuss eleventh shloka of Isha Upanishad.

You can recite the shloka. So, let's start.

अन्यदेवाहुः सम्भवादन्यदाहुरसम्भवात् ।
इति शुश्रुम धीराणां ये नस्तद्विचचक्षिरे ॥

In English:

anyad evahūḥ sambhavād anyad āhur asambhavāt|
iti śuśruma dhīrāṇām ye nas tad vicacakṣire ||”

Translation in English:

The result of worshipping manifested is different from the result received by worshipping unmanifested. We heard that from wise people who taught us so.

Let me try to explain the Shloka using a small incident that happened a few days ago. A fake monk named Abodh Lila Das (Changed the name to hide his identity) worships Lord Krishna’s idol. He used to joke about others who worship in different ways than his style of worship. Even he used to mock other renowned Gurus. One day he crossed all limits and mocked Shri Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda, the revolutionaries, reformers, ideals of thousands of freedom fighters in India, captain of India’s independence, representative of Hinduism to the world and icons of young generation. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Rishi Arvind, Rabindranath Tagore, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Jamshedji Tata, Sister Nivedita, renowned scientist Tesla, former US president Barak Obama and many more were influenced by the teachings of the duo. Because of blind faith and unstoppable ego, he made this mistake. He is such a blind ignorant fake monk that he misinterpreted the teaching of inclusiveness. A pervert like him cannot see the impact of Swami Ji and Shri Ramakrishna in building modern India and Neo Vedanta philosophy. It’s more painful when a person wearing saffron does that. After this incident, he was trolled by many people on social media. The trollers hardly read the work of Swami ji or Shri Ramakrishna, but they just responded because somewhere their ego hurt for different reasons. The fake monk hid his face to cool down the matter from the social arena. Once everyone will forget this incident, he will encash the negative publicity he received.

Before we explain this Shloka, we recommend you to read previous Shlokas to understand worsipping manifested and unmanifested and of course other shlokas if you missed them. Links to those blogs are given at the bottom of this page.

From this incident, can you identify here who is or are worshippers of manifested and who is or are worshippers of the unmanifested? The monk is worshipper of idol Shri Krishna. So, he is worshipper of unmanifested. The trollers are the worshippers or followers of their ideal. Hence, they are worshippers of the manifested. If you cannot recognize, do not worry at all. Read the explanation of earlier shloka once again.

Did you differentiate the results received by the two different types of worshippers? Here we can see the results received by the monk worshipping an idol. They are faith, blind faith, ego, disrespect to others faith, troll, grief, cowardness and publicity. The results received by the trollers following an ideal are motivation, bravery, blind belief, ego and sense of satisfaction by attacking others.

The results were based on the incident only. But there can be many results which we will discuss here.

Positive results of worshipping Manifested (Living being / Ideal)

  • Love to all living beings
  • Respect to all living beings
  • Motivation
  • Bravery
  • Devotion to Guru or Ideal
  • Blessing of Guru
  • Inner peace and happiness

Negative results of worshipping Manifested (Living being / Ideal)
  • Loving only specific living animal or pet
  • Ego
  • Blind faith
  • Trap of Fake Gurus
  • Following ideas of only specific ideal or Guru
  • Misleading
  • Hatred
Positive results of worshipping Unmanifested (Non-living / Idol)
  • Love for nature
  • Respect for nature
  • Motivation to restore nature
  • Faith for idol
  • Believe in God
  • Bhakti or devotion for God
  • Inner Peace and happiness
Negative results of worshipping Manifested (Living being / Ideal)
  • No love for other creatures
  • No love for human
  • No love for civilization and technologies
  • Blind faith
  • Hatred for others' idol or God
  • Ego
  • Believing in the stories written for idols

There can be many more results based on circumstances, followers' personality and their following. Like worshipping river, mountain is different from worshipping idol though both are worshipping unmanifested. In consequence result of worship will be different. As an example, if you worship or love a river, you will keep the river clean. As a result millions of species, human surviving on the river will benefit and you will get a sense of satisfaction. In another example, if someone worships an idol, he will donate money for that idol or serve the thousands of bhaktas of  that idol. As a result, he will get an inner peace of satisfaction and devotion.

The same way worshipping an animal or living nature is different from worshipping an ideal person or Guru though both are worshipping of manifested. So, the outcome will be different. As an example, you everyday worship cows. You feed the cows and take care of them. As a result, they receive love, care and food and you receive a sense of inner peace by serving them.  In another example, you follow a Guru. The Guru gives you a purpose in your life. With his motivation you can achieve all the impossibilities. As a result, Guru does not receive anything because the Guru does not take any result, but you receive the knowledge of the Self and supreme happiness.

In today’s world we are regularly finding one religious group is attacking the idol or Gurus of another sect. Nature (Living or non-living or both) lovers are generally atheist and they are attacking all the religions. They are blaming human civilizations. Animal lovers and worshippers do not show any love and affection to other animals, birds except the species they are in love with or their pet. If we try to investigate the issues, we will find because of following or worshipping only one kind, making our sight narrow. We can’t see the goodness in different styles of worship. We can’t show the same love, empathy and affection to others.

The solution is to follow or worship unmanifested and manifested both. When we do so everything will be covered in our area of love and jurisdiction of worship. Then get hold of all the positive outcomes. That outcome will not be limited to you only, millions will get the benefit. Now give a thought what will happen when we get all the good things as outcome of our worship. We will discuss that in the next verse.
